I hope you all had an incredible Thanksgiving! I sure did- and will be sharing more photos from our day over the weekend. In the mean time, I wanted to show you ladies and gents my top two favorite ways to use up all those leftovers!
First and foremost, my favorite use of leftovers is what I call: The Gobbler. I unfortunately didn’t get a photo of it, because we eat them too quickly. But, basically what it is, is your favorite bread, topped with a layer of turkey, stuffing, and cranberry. Drizzle a little creamy gravy, and fry that thing like a grilled cheese. Certainly NOT a healthy option after an already weight gaining meal. But oh, how I crave them! Almost more than eating the actual meal!
As for a healthier option: this is something you can eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is something we make often to use up an array of leftovers. Turkey Hash!
Now, I don’t have a super specific recipe for this, because you can literally use ANYTHING. They should call this everything but the kitchen sink hash. You toss in whatever you’d like, and cook it in a skillet. Top it with eggs of your choice, and you’ve got one heck of a meal.
Here’s what I tossed in there: 2 cubed cooked sweet potatoes, 1/4 cup chopped onion, 1/2 cup stuffing, 1 cup chopped turkey. I sauteed all of the ingredients in a skillet until heated through and crisp. I added some fried eggs, and I served it with a little cranberry sauce. Delish!
I am not one of those dog owners that feeds her pet human food. I guess it’s mainly because I’m worried it will be bad for my dog and begging issues, but I always feel guilty around the holidays that my dog doesn’t get to enjoy something special, too. So, I double checked again and again on what was safe for my dog to eat, and threw the leftovers in some dog bones! She was one happy pup!
Turkey Cranberry Dog Bones
What You’ll Need:
+ 2 cups whole wheat flour
+ 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
+ 1 cup shredded cooked turkey
+ 1/2 cup unsweetened cranberry sauce
+ 1 egg
+ 1/2 Tablespoon olive oil
+ 1/2 cup low sodium chicken broth
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a baking sheet. Combine flour and baking powder. Add in the turkey and cranberry sauce. Make a well in the middle and add the egg, olive oil, and chicken broth. Stir until you have a dough. Roll out to 1/4 inch thick and cut out shapes. Bake about 25 minutes. Shut off the oven and leave them in there another 30 minutes to dry out.
