I want you guys to say hello to my little friend. This is a long winded post, but something I care deeply about. So if you want to find out why this is the only lotion you will ever need again, keep reading!
This body butter is the bees knees. As a major sufferer of dry, sensitive skin, this is the ONLY stuff that does the trick, and I’ve been making and using it for the past 5 years happily. That’s right, I haven’t bought one more expensive, crappy cream from the store since. But, you don’t have to have dry skin for this. It may seem thick, but it’s perfect for oily skin as well. This body butter is creamy and luxurious. It leaves my skin so soft and supple. People still think I’m 10 years younger than I am (okay that may be partially genetic), but this stuff is truly a miracle worker. You’d never believe that it was cheap, easy, and all natural. This stuff should be on the market for $200, I swear.
Let’s break it down and see just a FEW reasons why these ingredients are so beneficial.
Coconut Oil: All on its own, this is a miracle in a jar. It has been proven that coconut oil naturally helps protect your skin from the suns harmful rays. That means no scary chemicals that cause cancer just as much as the sun does. (Of course, if you’ll be in the sun a long time, sunscreen is wise. ) but, I am literally almost translucent, and I use this as my everyday minimal sunscreen. It’s also an anti aging cream, a stretch mark eraser, antibacterial, a pore minimizer. The proteins in coconut oil help keep our skin plump, tight, and young, while also fixing damaged skin cells at the same time. Coconut oil is also great for acne, psoriasis, and eczema. Honestly, why people still buy chemical laden products is beyond me.
Shea butter is similar. It’s super moisturizing, anti inflammatory, (major acne helper), aids in our natural collagen production, and that’s just to name a few. Now as for the essential oils, I love lavender for its smell and soothing properties, but you an use whatever scent you want. In the summer, I like to make it with peppermint oil because its cooling. Citrus oils are also nice. Just always be sure to spot test with any of these products you make. They will never hurt you, but some (especially the essential oils) may irritate your skin.
This is truly all you need. And good sleep and lots of water, of course.
Something we must remember, dearies. Our skin is our biggest organ. Not only does it breathe, and release toxins, is absorbs. Think about that next time you slather a bunch of mystery ingredients onto your skin. They’ve been proving more and more how dangerous some of them can be.
I use this body butter all year round, mainly at night time in the summer. I’ll be posting a thinner lotion recipe soon. This beauty isn’t just for us adults either. It’s wonderful for babies, toddlers, and kids of all ages. Not only will it soothe that rash and make them sleepy, it’s 100% non toxic. You could eat the whole jar in a sitting, no problem. Not that I would reccomend it. It makes a wonderful baby shower, mothers day, bridal gift (just to name a few).
Here’s how easy it is to make:
Sleepy Time Lavender Body Butter
Makes 16 ounces
What You’ll Need:
+ 1 cup (4 ounces) unrefined coconut oil
+ 1/2 cup shea butter
+ 1/8 cup olive oil (or grapeseed oil)
+ 10- 12 drops lavender essential oil (or your choice)
This is easiest to do with a stand mixer, but you can whip it by hand. Add all of the ingredients into your mixing bowl, and set your mixer (with whisk attachment), on medium speed. Allow to whisk until all of the ingredients are incorporated and whipped and fluffy looking. If the ingredients seem to be melting, place in the freezer for a few minutes to allow it to harden up again. Store in a jar for up to 6 months (not that it ever lasts that long!)
Enjoy lovelies! xo Jessica
