Perfect Homemade Margaritas

apinchadash.com

How many of you have actually had a real margarita before? And I don’t mean the neon green stuff in the bottle! I bet there aren’t very many of you. I mean, lets be realistic; What’s easier than buying a bottle that’s already mixed for you? Nothing, and I don’t blame you! But, I bet you didn’t know that it’s really super simple to make a margarita from scratch. Oh, and the flavor; no bottled product could ever compare! A homemade margarita is refreshing, sweet, a little sour, but you can taste all of the individual ingredients in there. It’s just perfect, and the way they were meant to be enjoyed! So, give it a try! Maybe you won’t taste the difference from the bottled kind….haha- just kidding. You will, I promise!!

Here’ sa quick list of what’s in margarita mix: Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup (you all know my hatred for this), WINE?, Citric Acid, sodium citrate, sodium benzonate, potassium sorbate, cellulose gum, flavors and food colorings. THERE ISNT EVEN ANY LIME JUICE IN IT!!!! No wonder! Sorry for yelling, but it just blew my mind!

Want to know what’s in MY margarita mix? Lime juice, and simple syrup. That’s all it needs! The flavor difference is incredible, and it’s no wonder; one has 0% juice, the other is made of real lime juice.

Guess what the nutritional differences are (aside from the HFCS and chemicals): The Bottled Mix has 120 Calories per serving. My Mix has 47 Calories. The Bottled Mix has 50mg Sodium. My Mix has 1.2mg. The Bottled Mix has 23g of Sugar. My Mix has 9grams.

So, not only do they taste better homemade, but  they’re WAY better for you! You could have almost 3 of my margaritas for the same value as one bottled one. Convinced yet? 🙂

Here’s how to make them:

Homemade Margaritas

Makes 1

What You’ll Need:

+ 2 ounces lime juice

+ 1 ounce simple syrup (recipe below)

+ 3 ounces Tequila

+ 1 teaspoon orange liquer (optional)

To Make the Simple Syrup: Combine 1 Cup Sugar with 1 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir, until the sugar dissolves. Store in a container in the refrigerator for up to a month. This stuff is gold for all cocktails!

To Make the Margarita: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all of the ingredients in and shake until chilled and combined (about 30 seconds). Strain into a chilled glass. You can add a few ice cubes to keep it cool.

If you want to make a big batch, combine the desired amount in a pitcher with ice and stir until combined.

It’s that easy, really!
