Christmas is all about traditions in my family. We have certain things we do every year that brings out our holiday spirit and brings us all closer together.
Hot Buttered Rum is something I’ve never really had before, but I always liked the sound of it. When Alex and I got our Christmas tree, I wanted to make a warm and spiced drink to sip on while we decorated the tree. Hot Buttered Rum seemed like just the ticket!
It tastes just like it sounds. Hot, buttery, creamy, spicy, flavorful. Just perfection. I think we’ve made our own new Christmas tradition. Sipping Hot Buttered Rum and decorating our tree.
It is such a classic holiday beverage that dates back at least to 1917. If you’ve never had it before, I’d reccomend incorporating it into your holiday traditions, too!
Hot Buttered Rum
Makes about 1 cup Spiced Butter
What You’ll Need:
+ 1 stick unsalted butter
+ 1/2 cup brown sugar
+ 1 teaspoon cinnamon
+ 1/2 teaspoon ginger
+ 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
+ 1/4 teaspoon allspice
+1 teaspoon orange zest
Combine all together. You can store the butter in a small container. Add about 2 Tablespoons of the butter to the bottom of a mug, and add boiling water. Stir, and serve. You can use the spiced butter on lots of other things, as well!
