Harry Potter Butter Beer

 Can you believe it’s been over 15 years since the first Harry Potter book was released?! I certainly can’t. How time flies! One of may fondest memories is reading the Harry Potter series with my Dad. I was plenty old enough to read to myself, but it was something we enjoyed doing together; reading aloud the exciting adventures. It always amazed me once the movies were released as to how perfect it matched what I viewed in my mind reading the stories.

One thing I as always fascinated with was Butter Beer. Honestly, who isn’t?! The name alone sounds like pure bliss. Once I saw this recipe that matched what they were serving at Disney World, I had to try it. My sister in law and brother are both big fans of the series too, so while we were on vacation we made a batch. Everyone agreed: it tasted EXACTLY like we thought it would. So buttery, creamy, and bubbly. Incredible, you HAVE to try these.

I found this recipe on the Huffington Post. To make it alcoholic for adults, I added a shot of spiced rum instead of rum extract.

Butterbeer

Harry Potter Butter Beer

Serves 4

What You’ll Need:

+ 1 cup light or dark brown sugar

+ 2 tablespoons water

+ 6 tablespoon butter

+ 1/2 teaspoon salt

+ 1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar

+ 1/4 cup heavy cream

+ 1/2 teaspoon rum extract (or 1 shot spiced rum per drink)

+ Four 12-ounce bottles cream soda

In a small saucepan over medium, combine the brown sugar and water. Bring to a gentle boil and cook, stirring often, until the mixture reads 240 F on a candy thermometer.

Stir in the butter, salt, vinegar and heavy cream. Set aside to cool to room temperature.

Once the mixture has cooled, stir in the rum extract. ( If using real rum, add to the mixture with the soda later.

To serve, divide the brown sugar mixture between 4 tall glasses (about 1/4 cup for each glass). Add 1/4 cup of cream soda to each glass, then stir to combine. Fill each glass nearly to the top with additional cream soda.
